There’s Only One Reason for Celebration on Easter Sunday

President Trump has faced criticism for his recent venture of selling MAGA-endorsed Bibles. While I probably would have advised him against it due to potential interpretations of poor taste, what truly astounds me is the resounding silence from these same critics regarding President Biden’s declaration of Easter Sunday as Trans Visibility Day.

Jesus is Lord. He is King. He is ruler and redeemer so far above American politics. Yet, he is not removed. He intimately cares about the plights of his children, He calls the rulers in power missionaries, and He uses all things for His glory.

Only the Bible is God-breathed, and written as the inherent word of God. Yet, our founding documents were God-inspired and I believe our long-standing prosperity as a nation, despite our many missteps and shortcomings, comes from the blessing and providence of God.

As I reflect on the theological weightiness of Holy Week, coupled with the insanity of our present day, I find myself asking how long will the Lord continue to bless us when the highest leader of the land chooses to debase the holiest of celebrations.

Rather than exalting the one who has Lordship over all, the one who has power over sin and death, our nation opts to elevate the false idol of identity politics through the observance of Trans Visibility Day on Resurrection Sunday.

How long will the Lord continue to bless us when the highest leader of the land chooses to debase the holiest of celebrations?

Are we so audacious as to defy the King so blatantly?

Are we so brazen that we would spit directly in the face of God?

No man or woman, trans or otherwise, should claim the Day of the Lord as their own. I shudder to think of the wrath which will reign upon them.

How desperately our nation needs to revive what Scripture talks of as “the fear of the Lord,” a reverent awe of God, not rooted in terror but rather in comprehending and acknowledging His all-powerful and holy nature.

Of course, I am no better than those who have turned this very Resurrection Sunday into a mockery. For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Each and every day is the Lord’s and each and every day I fall short of the standard of perfection which God calls us to.

How desperately our nation needs to revive what Scripture talks of as "the fear of the Lord."

Yet my one saving grace is quite literally the saving grace of Jesus. That is indeed why we celebrate the Good News: that on the cross where Jesus died, the wrath of God was satisfied. Because of this I am rendered spotless, despite what I deserve. And out of humbling gratitude and holy reverence I celebrate the work of Christ alone.

May the leaders and citizens of our nation accept this same gift of grace that renders me spotless. May God have mercy on America.

May tomorrow be one celebration and one alone — the celebration of the saving power of the Risen Lord.
